One Direction Attacked iTunes Chart With Best Song Ever

One Direction has just released their latest single Best Song Ever, taken from their motion picture One Direction: This Is Us. The song is taking over the world by storm and is currently the number one song on iTunes Worldwide.
Best Song Ever is number one in United States, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Sweden and many other countries including Vietnam. There's nothing to talk about if a song hit number one but this song has taken the number one spot in the States from the monstrous hit of the year Blurred Lines, which has been consistently selling around 400,000 copies weekly - that's an average of 57,000 copies a day.
According to my statistics, Best Song Ever has sold over 150,000 copies in the first 21 hours and might actually make it to 170,000 in the end of the day. Also, it only took the song 5.8 hours to go to number one. Talking about Directioners' power!
However, it's usual for One Direction or many other teen stars to have a front-loaded sales which means it's very very high in sales the first few days then it drops very quickly without much support from people that aren't fans while the song hasn't been picked up by radio stations. Let's see how things go as it is still too soon to predict its debut sales and debut position on Billboard.

However, One Direction is not the only one to pass Robin Thicke on iTunes US. Ariana Grande made it as well, selling around 67,000 copies in the first 21 hours and might make it to 76,000 in 24 hours with Baby I. Unlike One Direction, Grande has a better longevity on charts thanks to her being a relatively new name with fantastic music. Her critically-acclaimed single entitled The Way, has spent 16 weeks on Billboard Hot 100. The Way debuts at #9, selling 219,000 copies in that week (with 120,000 in the first 48 hours) and is still hanging on in the top 20. Not so front-loaded to me.

Both Best Song Ever and Baby I made something Miley Cyrus's We Can't Stop  has not yet succeeded in for 7 weeks: passing Robin Thicke. However, We Can't Stop surprisingly has more longevity than any of Cyrus's previous singles; the song has been selling approximately 45,000 copies daily ever since the release of her controversial music video. It went platinum in United States, Australia, gold in New Zealand in just 6 weeks. As a result, Cyrus still remained in top 10 of iTunes Worldwide (currently #7).
Unfortunately for Miley Cyrus, Blurred Lines is still very consistent with its performance, almost matching with Grande's Baby I in terms of sales.
